BART VAN DAMME
- Bart van Damme (Den Haag, 1963) studeerde schilderkunst aan de Minerva Academie in Groningen, voor hij zich toelegde op fotografie. In de loop der jaren ontwikkelde hij een veelzijdig oeuvre over de kunstmatige leefomgeving van de mens.
- Visueel zoekt Van Damme naar onderlinge verbindingen en een onderliggende coherentie in zijn landschapsfoto's. Door zo de essentie van het landschap naar voren te brengen, laat hij iets zien wat in de dagelijkse beleving van deze landschappen aan ons voorbijgaat.

OVER DE KUNSTENAAR / ABOUT THE ARTIST
Bart van Damme (Den Haag, 1963) studeerde schilderkunst aan de Minerva Academie in Groningen, voor hij zich toelegde op fotografie. In de loop der jaren ontwikkelde hij een veelzijdig oeuvre over de kunstmatige leefomgeving van de mens. Een tentoonstelling van de Amerikaanse en Duitse 'New Topographers' inspireerde hem om zich volledig op het topografische sociale landschap te richten. Net als deze fotografen geeft Van Damme het industriële landschap direct en zakelijk weer. In zijn werk onderzoekt hij landschappen in wording, waarbij hij de totstandkoming en sociale context van deze landschappen aan de kaak stelt. Hij richt zich specifiek op het Nederlandse kustlandschap, een van de meest gecontroleerde en kunstmatige gebieden ter wereld waar rivieren, delta's en zee samenkomen en de belangen van economische ontwikkelaars, recreanten en milieubeschermers botsen. Visueel zoekt Van Damme naar onderlinge verbindingen en een onderliggende coherentie in zijn landschapsfoto's. Door zo de essentie van het landschap naar voren te brengen, laat hij iets zien wat in de dagelijkse beleving van deze landschappen aan ons voorbijgaat.
Bart van Damme (The Hague, 1963) studied painting at the Minerva Academy in Groningen, before he gradually switched to photography. Over the years he developed a diverse body of work dealing with the artificial surroundings of mankind. An exhibition of the American and German 'New Topographers' inspired him to fully focus on the topographic social landscape. Like these photographers, Van Damme captures the industrial landscape in a direct, 'objective' manner. His work explores landscapes in the making, questioning the transformation and social context of these landscapes. He is particularly interested in the Dutch coastal landscape, one of the most controlled and human-designed areas in the world where river delta's meet the sea and different interest groups like economic and recreational developers and nature conservationists clash. Visually, Van Damme aims for underlying interconnectivity and coherence in his landscapes. By bringing out the essence of these landscapes, he evokes something which normally escapes us when we see these surroundings.
